The Akwa Ibom Christmas Carols Festival is an annual evening celebration of songs and dance with thousands of voices raised in worship to God. This festival brings together a host of worshippers and features a large assembly of carol singers and some of the best local and international gospel artistes of our time.
Right from the onset when it featured the famous 9,999 carol singers, the festival launched Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria on the global orbit. The carols festival is an avenue to bring people closer to God through worship during Christmas season, promote spiritual growth and peaceful coexistence among ethnic, religious and cultural groups in the State, and is also a source of spiritual tourism that attracts people from around the world.
The choristers who participated in the festival gave it worldwide recognition when they broke the world record that was officially certified by the Guinness World Records in 2014 as the “Largest Group of Carol Singers in the World”. The concert featured 25,272 carol singers against a former record of 15,674 carol singers which was achieved the previous year by CENTI, a group in Bogota, Columbia.
Starting from 2008 and all through the nine editions of the Akwa Ibom Christmas Carols Festival, the Carols Night has remained a great worship experience with each edition routinely getting bigger than the previous.
